Understanding the 4 Parts of Medicare

Medicare is organized into four distinct parts, each offering specific coverage. Here’s a breakdown of what each part covers:

Shield Icon
Part A - Hospital Insurance

Medicare Part A provides coverage for hospital stays, nursing facilities, hospice care, and certain home health care services. While it comes with a deductible, it can often be premium-free if you or your spouse have paid Medicare taxes for a set amount of time.

Part B - Medical Insurance

Medicare Part B covers outpatient care, including preventive services. It includes essential health services needed for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of specific conditions.

Part C - Medicare Advantage

Part C, also known as Medicare Advantage, is offered by private insurers approved by Medicare. This plan bundles the benefits of Parts A, B, and D, and often includes additional coverage such as vision, dental, and hearing services. It can also include prescription drug coverage.

Part D - Prescription Drug Coverage

Medicare Part D helps cover prescription drug costs, including both generic and brand-name medications. It’s designed to help individuals manage rising prescription drug expenses.

Understanding Your Car Insurance Options

With so many coverage options available, choosing the right car insurance can feel overwhelming. Here’s a breakdown of the six main types of policies to help you determine what best suits your needs.

Liability Coverage

Covers injuries and property damage you cause to others in an accident. Most states require this coverage to legally operate a vehicle.

Collision Coverage

Pays for damages to your car resulting from a crash with another vehicle or object, like a pole or fence, regardless of fault. This is often required for leased or financed vehicles.

Comprehensive Coverage

Provides protection against non-collision-related damages, including theft, vandalism, fire, natural disasters, and animal-related accidents.

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Covers medical expenses and lost wages for you and your passengers after an accident, regardless of who’s at fault. PIP is mandatory in no-fault states.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage

Helps cover medical costs and damages if you're hit by a driver with little or no insurance. This coverage is required in some states.

Medical Payments Coverage (MedPay)

Pays medical bills for you and your passengers, no matter who’s at fault. This coverage is mandatory in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Maine.

Pro Tip: If you're driving less, let your insurer know!

The average driver logs about 12,000 miles per year, but if you’re driving less due to remote work, retirement, or a shorter commute, you may qualify for a discount of 5-10% on your premium.
